A car salesman – but for science. I know at first that probably conjures up the image of Elon Musk; after all he is the ultimate car salesman – with a product outreach that has gone stratospheric (pun intended). But, there is so much scientific progress happening on Earth that we’re unaware of, and this is my attempt to tackle a very small part of it, but in a way that makes it easy to understand.
I’m a pursuing my PhD in Fiber and Polymer Science (Materials Science and Engineering minor) at North Carolina State University’s (NC State) College of Textiles. I also have a Master’s in Textile Engineering from NC State and a Bachelor’s from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India. But those are just titles and they don’t mean anything – what I do want to convey is that I absolutely love the idea of our clothing transcending our lives from just covering our bodies to actually acting like personal computers.
I know it sounds like something out of a science fiction book but research in this field – the field of “smart” textiles, or electronic (e)-textiles, as it is referred to sometimes – is ever present, and growing every day. Additionally, new companies, products, and even established companies are investing into this field so that they can create a seamless experience for what it means to be alive in the 21st century. I want to use this wonderful internet platform to help communicate what all of this means for all of us – and where this field is headed. If that sounds interesting, you can subscribe, share, connect, and question me about these topics and I will try my best to provide accurate information.
